I'm looking to get a speaker dock for the iPhone and notice there's a few out there, some have an alarm clock & radio function built in too!

Anyone got experience of these gadgets, their sound quality, etc. Or recommend any others (not necesserally with the added functions ^) which are up to about a £150 budget?

I'd highly recommend this Andy.It's just a charger and speaker dock with remote, but the sound out of the thing is unbelievable. There are one or two places showing it cheaper but out of stock. You might get lucky if you have a good search.

am looking at these myself as a possible treat for myself for xmas.

they have a great sound and look great. had a listen in the apple store and was impressed. they also only cost about £80 which for the sound etc is good value

I'll second that, I have one and it's amazing. Although mine suddenly decided to start increasing the volume by itself one day so it's currently in for repair!
 
Worth noting that for the iphone you will want a shielded one otherwise you have to put your phone in flight-mode (disconnected from the network) to avoid interference. There aren't many of these around, I have ordered this one Click but it hasn't arrived yet so i can't comment on the quality. Apparently its very similar to the Bose though.

one older model that my son uses and the newer version which i have
works all fine with the iphone 3gs and saves me plugging it in to charge
reasonable sound and a remote which works the ipod as well
i paid 70-00 a few weeks back and now they have droped the price
bargain for 50-00 if you ask me
 
You say "iPhone/ iPod speaker dock". Which is it?

If you are going to use a dock with an iPhone then check the dock's compatibility VERY carefully. Some features won't work or won't work well with some docks.
 
nover vote for making sure it is iPhone compatible if you want to use it with an iPhone.

FWIW I'm using an iHome (can't remember the number) but when I got it this time last year it was the only one in the Apple shop that was an alarm clock (what I wanted) and iPhone compatible. It's pretty sound quality good and does the job, but doesn't sound as good as the B&W or Bose units (but was a lot cheaper).
 
it pains me to say, but the Bose are very good. Bose usually rely on clever marketing to sell goods, but the docks really are very good (shakes fist at bose)
 
Well, the indecision was final, albeit twice the estimated budget I mentioned in the OP :LOL:

In the end I went for a Sony Giga-Duke as it was still relatively 'compact', brilliant sounds, AM/FM & DAB tuner, clock/alarm, iPod/iPhone dock thingy, CD player... And a built-in HDD :D

I used to have one of these and I must say it is immense. The sound quality is fantastic!

Not cheap like but looks the part and sounds equally good.

something else that's on my wanted list, they come up on ebay every now and again but seem to make about £20 short of the new price :shrug:

I'm amazed they even come up but it does say something about their quality that they hold price... ;)
