iphone to PC image transfer advice

A friend of mine has upgraded their 3GS iphone and has given it to me to extract some photo's from. These are not ones taken with the camera they are ones that were on the a PC and synced to the iphone and the original have now been lost.

I am after some kind of application to extract the images, preferably free as it is unlikely to be needed again. I know they will be in low res but they are the only copies left.
 
Should be some sort of settings or sync in iTunes , have a little fiddle around on the syncing of photo's tab
 
you wont be able to plug it into another machine, itll ask to erase and resync to the new computer.

can you not just plug into the original machine and either browse the iphone (i think sync'd images still show in the DCIM folder, saved from web certainly do) or as above sync them back with itunes.
 
If I plug my phone into my laptop (Windows 7), it launches iTunes but it also reads the phone just as a mass storage device and enables me to open a folder just like I would on a memory card reader. Just stop iTunes starting up, and try and access it that way.
 
I had to do the same today with my Iphone 4s... It had to go back to Three....I want to take the images off it first incase they were erased. I connected it to the PC and opened the folder view via 'My Computer' where the iphone appeared as another hard drive. I just browsed to the DCIM folder as mentioned above by Nige and copy/paste to my desk top.
 
I've just connected mine to iTunes and it appears that images synced from iTunes are not included in the DCIM folder.

My suggestion would be to use Dropbox, as the iOS app allows you to upload images from synced albums to Dropbox, the only downside is that they need to be selected manually.
 
The way i do it is to use another photo manger, in my case i use the Linkus app. This will allow you to import the images from the IOS photo app, and then allow you to off load them to a PC.
While its not a free app its also a lot better than the built in one so i didnt mind paying for it.
 
Doesn't the Iphone have bluetooth capabilities. I've got a samsung galaxy S and I'm forever swapping bits to and from the pc via bluetooth. I got a tiny adapter that stays in a spare USB slot in the pc and I've got it permanently paired.
Either that or take the memory card out the phone and put connect it up to the pc and you should get them dead easy then.

Android is more advanced on this than iOS. You can't pair BT even with other phones to transfer stuff. iOS file manager is ***** in real sense. Only 3rd party software can do proper stuff.

As above, you can't fileshare via BT, and there is no memory card, it's all internal.

The problem with the suggestion of emailing the pics from the phone is that it would need to have a working sim installed.
