Here are the steps to officially unlock your phone locked to O2.
1. Get a FREE O2 PAYG SIM from Prepaymania
2. Top up the PAYG SIM with only £15 [you may wish to top up with more if you plan to use it at a later date and need to keep some balance in it but £15 is what is needed to officially unliock your iPhone]
3. Make 2 calls to 2 of your frequenctly called numbers but cancel your calls so that money is not deducted from your PAYG SIM account.
4. Fill in this O2 Unlock form
In this form it will ask you about your iPhone's IMEA number, and 2 numbers to whom you most frequently call [step 3 above comes handy here] and some more personal details.
5. After the form is filled and submitted, after a couple of days check if the £15 pounds are deducted from your PAYG SIM.
6. Once the money is deducted call O2 and tell them that you had filled in the form, the money is deducted and the phone is still locked to O2.
O2 customer services guy/gal will then contact Apple iPhone. In a couple of days check whether your iPhone has been unlocked by doing the following....
"Place a non-O2 sim into the iPhone and connect to iTunes via a USB cable. iTunes will confirm that the iPhone has been successfully unlocked"
The above may take a couple of attempts for iTunes to unlock your phone.
Only Genuine Iphones which have been locked to O2 before can be locked the official way.
Hope the above helps.
Good Luck.
