Hi guys

Is the above software update recommended. I've seen threads where people have stated that the iPhone update isn't that great, just wondered, if anyone had any issues/recommendations to upgrade the iPod touch software.

Thanks in advance

Sarah

I'm not sure what type of processor the touch has but 3 people i know have rolled back away from os4 on their iphone 3g due to the speed and performance falling through the floor! it really cant handle the beffed up os imo.

my 3GS seems to run a lot quicker on OS 4.0, which version of the ipod touch do you have as i think the later ones have a quicker processor than the 3GS.

Upgraded my iTouch to OS4 without too many headaches. Lost a few apps / settings but they were easily replaced after the upgrade was complete.

Not had any issues since.

I've got the 3rd Gen Ipod Touch released September 2009. This is what is says on an external site.

iPod touch (3G)

Samsung ARM

Apple provides no information on the processor used in the iPod touch 3G models, but third-party "teardowns" indicate that the 32 GB and 64 GB configurations use an Apple branded Samsung ARM processor running at 800 MHz.

The 2nd Gen touch works fine with it... I lost all my music and playlists in the upgrade (not a major pain really, as easy to put back). Battery life seems not so good, nor does wifi. Seemed very slow for a while, but I followed a process I found last night, hard shutdown twice in succession and that seems to have dealt with it. Not sure it adds much though to be honest... no multi tasking, no background image, and I think, those are the two main reasons for going to iOS4

Had a look around and found this, the 3GS is underclocked to 600mhz to save the battery. There are ways to downgrade as well if you dont like it.

I upgraded my 2nd gen just because iTunes told me to. Hasn't done any harm, though the wifi indicator has taken a tumble - what used to be full signal at home is now barely registering on the little image.

Note that theres been no change to the actual workings of the device, and it doesn't drop wifi, its just that the signal looks like it is less.

I upgraded my 3rd generation 32gb touch without problems, the battery life seems slightly worse so i've tried jgs001's tip.
Does anyone know if the airplane mode has any relevance for the touch?
