Hello,
I have a very ordinary 19" lcd samsung monitor. It is calibrated and I have used it for a couple of years. I would like a dual monitor setup so I was looking at more recent monitors. I came across a lot of threads saying that ips monitors are the way to go, soooo much better. I have never seen one, so I'm not feeling left out. I do want to improve my photography so I would like your input. Do I "need", "want" or "want to show off" a ips monitor (like the dell U2211H) ?
Thank you,
Nicolas.

Sorry about this but I'm doing a +1...
I would really like some input ! Please ?

I would say that an IPS monitor is a nice-to-have I have a Dell U2410 (IPS) sat next to a Dell FPW2408 (PVA). The U2410 is by far the better monitor, but having said that I was quite happy with the FPW2408 until the U2410 arrived !

Both calibrate well and have always produced well matched images from DSCL and Kaleidoscope.

IPS generally gives you better colour rendition, a wider gamut and also better viewing angles. If you are will ing to spend a little more than average they really are great for photography. I also have a Dell U2410 and it is superb but the 2209WA is also supposed to be a cracker and much cheaper.
