Does anybody own a Canon 60D and either a Sigma 120-400 or Canon 70-200 2.8 is mk I with 2x converter? I'm having slight IQ issues with my wildlife shots (soft focus). I thought it was the lens I had, but I'm thinking its the camera. Could someone post an image using this set-up for me to compare IQ. Thanks.

Hi Tim, I can't help directly with the two lenses you've listed but I can with a similar Sigma 150-500 OS. My wife had the 120-400 OS and I found them to be very similar in IQ and AF performance so this might help. I did have a 70-200 f2.8L IS MkI but I only ever used it with a Kenko 1.4x converter, I didn't find it hit the IQ and AF too much but a 2x converter does affect sharpness much more than the MkII lens. Anyway, here's a couple of shots with my old 60D and Sigma 150-500 to give you an idea of the sharpness of my setup.

They are both Jpegs SOOC with no other PP apart from a crop. Hope this helps.

How do I actually get images up on the thread?

This looks okay viewed small, but I think it's slightly softer than I thought it would be. What do you think?

Exposure 0.001 sec (1/800)
Aperture f/5.6
Focal Length 400 mm
ISO Speed 1600

It doesn't look too bad really ... as it's an OS lens though I think you could lower the shutter speed a fair bit and use a smaller aperture (the big Sigmas are not at their best wide open)

Again I don't know much about the 120-400 but I use a 150-500 on a 60d and find its best at around f/8. Also fully zoomed its a bit soft. I just back it off slightly and crop in PP

This has been taken with my 5D3 and the wifes Sigma 120-400 OS. It was shot at 400mm, 1/800sec, ISO160 and at f6.3. It's a very heavy crop and is another Jpeg SOOC with no other PP than the conversion in camera. Because of the crop (and resize) it does actually look softer on Flickr than the original does on the computer but I think it's OK for a 400mm shot on a 400mm zoom. I've also got a good few plane shots taken with both a 60D and a 7D but I haven't got them on the computer to show.
