is there such filter that allows long exposure in IR range?

I don't think the normal ND filters works as they don't block IR range?

Just need to be clear what you will be using it for, Richard. Will this be used on an IR converted camera or in tandem with an IR filter on a camera with a regular sensor.

They take too long that's the problem. I don't need minutes of exposure just enough to smooth out water etc
 
I've got an array of glass and resin ND filters and a couple of IR bodies so I'll do some tests later and see what gives.

I ran some tests using a 720nm converted 5DMkII.

Use of Lee resin ND's doesn't affect the exposure but their Pro-Glass ND's do reduce the exposure but slightly less than the rated density would suggest.
B&W screw-in glass filters also reduce the exposure and again, a little less than the rated density.

I guess that the resin ones only block the visible spectrum whilst the glass ones cover much of the IR spectrum as well.

Excellent thanks for that. I will have a play with my BW 10 stop. Maybe I should have tried it first :). Thanks again.
 
I've tried a few 10-stop ND filters on my IR-converted 20D. They all were around 5-6 stops, so they did block a bit of the IR.

That correlates roughly with my tests Frank. A 4 stop glass ND acted like a 3 stop for 720nm IR
