Is A Canon 5D Mk 1 Still A Good Buy

Having just bought a 60D and loving it the plan was to sell my 30D and keep the 40D as a spare body,however I have seen 5D Mk 1 bodies going for around £500 which is what I could sell the 30 & 40D bodies for.
So the question is would a 7 year old Full Frame body be worth a punt instead of keeping the 40D working on the principle that it would be used for landscapes, railways etc and that sport and low light high ISO stuff would be the 60D's domain

Personally think the 5D performance at low light high ISO would still be better than the 60D. problems of small sensor crammed with MPs still creates issue with noise at higher ISOs, so the larger sensor of the 5D won't be prone to this, so yes the 5D still a good buy. Still using my 20D along side by 1D MKII and how old are they :D
 
The 5D has much better image quality, but just remember the LCD screen is pretty poor! The 60D is much easier to review images on. The 60D is also better at higher ISO...until it gets dark when weirdly the 5D seems to perform better.

If you've got EF lenses, go for it!
 
Been looking at a 5D myself. FF is tempting at that price. What worries me is the non sensor cleaning of the camera and no flash and non auto ISO. Still, very tempted.

That's because it has a larger sensor and large pixels compared to the 60D, its all physics pixel density, sensitivity to light etc...... but basically larger sensor means better ISO capabilities hence why full frame is used for that type of photography over the cropped sensor.

never needed one always manually cleaned my 20D and 1D, never had a problem with sensor swabs
 
The 5D is a lovely camera. I now have the Mark II, but aside from the live-view (which I use for MF lenses) and the sharper LCD (which I love for reviewing shots) I would still very happy with the output of a 5D.
