Is it best to sell gear complete or seperately - what would you do??

I am thinking of selling my gear to go smaller - just that I dont use it..

I've totalled it up to an eye watering £5616.57 for which is what I've paid for it all new/used... 99% was purchased new & complete with receipts, boxes, manuals etc etc.. Think the oldest piece of gear is 9months old...

As you can see from the sig below its not the lower end Nikon gear....

Only a couple of lenses were purchased used but were only about 6mths old when I got them (they were from a TP member on here - a known member at that)

Would the best way be to sell it seperately or as complete lot.. Most was purchased from the likes of Amazon, Warehouse Express & other known photography online shops...

One or two minor items were brought from ebay..

I know I wouldn't get £5600+ for it all but thats not what I'm askin..

I'm asking would you sell it complete or break it up :shrug:
 
I guess that the chances of someone wanting that exact set up would be pretty remote and to be honest I think that the chances of someone wanting to spend what you want for it would be pretty reomote too.

So... all in all... I'd sell them individually.

Good luck with it and I hope that you start a thread about your new kit and your experiences with it.
 
I'd definitely split, the odds of someone wanting that exact kit second hand, and willing to spend that much in one sitting on second hand goods, is rather slim. You could always bundle some items together if that works better for you?
 
Blimey !! That's a surprise !!

Don't do it... Get a point and squirt, put the D700 in the cupboard for a couple months. See if you can manage without it.

If you gotta sell....split the kit....Don't do it...
 
Agreed - probably more chance of selling it all separately, although some items will obviously take longer than other depending in who's looking for what.

Price things up individually but maybe discount slightly if someone us buying several items.
 
I'm selling off m4/3's gear to go FF, it's easier and quicker to sell separately. Might be worth putting a total price incase there is someone looking for a whole kit, doesn't do any harm.

As has been mentioned, stick it all in a cupboard, forget about it and get on with life, then suddenly one day you'll think, "I wish I'd taken a picture of that", and before you know it, your gear will be out of the cupboard and in full use again.

Dont wish to sound like a stuck record, but..

Trust me, Ive done it!

Really think carefully before going any further.

I would say seperately,yes it may take a little more time and effort but as seperate items the market place is your oyster whereas if sold as a complete kit you would need people with £4k+ to spare so you would almost certainly be more restricted.

I have to agree with Trevor on this one, dont sell it, you will regret it in a few months, put it away in a cupboard and see how you feel in a years time, it wont devalue that much Im sure, buy a point and shoot and see if you can do without that loverly set up you have.

Spose that you may be right - as well as many who say keep it...

In a way the thought crossed my mind as not been out with for a few months due to my work & then the other half's having had her foot broken - so she couldn't walk or get around easily...

:thinking: Would feel that once spring/summer comes & we can get out instead of staying in doors of a weekend might be a reason to hold on to it all...

:suspect: We was due to go to the US in April for her tyo swim with dolphins but this has been put back till November (again) so that didn't help matters much.. She doesn't know about this post - so spose that I will keep hold of it until we go away & see if my attitude to this hobby improves (well skills really & not so much my attitude towards it)..


Thanks again guys - seems that a couple of these threads appear once in a while & this time it seems to be me asking that all in all question...

So it would seem that I'll be keeping it & just for me to snap out of this "sell" attitude - shame that it hasn't turned in to a "buy" attitude :$

I think its just winter blues. As you say, you are less inclined to go out, and when other factors lik work or injury get in the way, its tought to keep with it. Ive done it so many times now. This time round Im determined to stick with it, and although Im stuck inside for the forseeable future, Im making a consious effort to use my camera every day, and if I cant do that, Im re-editing old pictures, or even planning out things I want to go and photograph in the future just to keep my self in the "photography loop". I know if I stop doing those things, Ill end up back in the position you are in, and come summer, Ill have no gear and probably no money cos I'll have wasted it on another fad hobby that lasts 3 weeks til I get bored.
 
Alternatively purchase into the mirrorless system with a GF1/GF2 or the new EP2 and get a pancake lens and just shoot with that, you may find it's all you need if you're not shooting at professional standard :)

I had the same thing with scuba diving - brought all the gear inc a top of the range dry suit (made to measure), regulator, air tanks, buddy etc - done it for 2months then sold the whole lot as the peron I used to dive with couldn't be bothered anymore... Regretted doing/selling it all :bang:

So will keep my gear now I think & get my butt out regardless or weather conditions & read up on the shed loads of books that I brought (all unread :$) on how to use this D700 & how to take pictures :lol:
 
Think also that what I should have done was got to learn everything when I had the D40.. Instead of thinking that a D60 would be better, then selling & getting a D80 - then again selling that for a D90.. Then when the D300s came out selling the D90 & getting it.... Yep you guessed it sold the D300s an went FF because I had some descent glass - then upgraded that to the 2 main ones I have now (selling the 28-70 beast for the 24-70 & the same with the 70-200 VR - for the 70-200 VR II)

As some said before in a previous thread - all the gear & no idea :$ :lol:

It just goes to show that have some top notch equipment doesn't always guarantee having the knowledge on how to use it to its full extent...

But hey we all learn by mistakes & mine was thinking getting better equipment would make me get out & learn... :thinking: which it hasn't :$
 
Phew !! So glad you're reconsidering. I've come to think of you as a soulmate.
Mind you...getting shot of The Beast for a 24-70....not sure I'll ever forgive that . lol
