Is it possible to tell how many shots you've taken using a lens? It's a Canon 24-70 if that makes any difference.

Thanks
:)

Simply put - no.

The only way would be if you owned the lens from new and had never deleted a photo then going through and count how many shots were taken with it.

Only way I can think of is if you've used something like Lightroom to store EVERY single photo ever taken with the lens and never stored any other images in Lightroom that were taken with another 24-70. Then you can sort by lens used in Lightroom.

not how many a lens itself has taken, but you can get an idea of how many shots you've personally taken with it from the images you've loaded into software like lightroom.

edit wow how fast???

can i ask why you would want to know, not having a go, just curiosity, lenses generally dont ware like shutters in cameras the main thing is the optics and how they perform. You can tell how old some lenses are and make an educated guess as to how well used it is by factoring its age and if used by a pro or an amatuer

I would think things like OS or focus motors have a finite lifespan. Anyone wore out a lens?

Hi

I have used many lenses over the years, some new and some very old and never had a problem. Look for scratches, rear element ones are worse than on the front and check for dust. Of course the best way is to take a photograph and then look at the image on screen or on print.

The only problem with a lens I have ever heard of was in fact with a hassleblad lens. The main wedding studio photographer in my home town 20 years ago used Hassleblad and the diaphragm had stuck. He shot five weddings over the course of three weekends. Because he was away on holiday and just coming back to shoot the weddings he was not processing - he lost the lot!, Ali's post reminded me of this

Hence I've just had mine serviced Stew. :)

Which reminds me, on the subject of looking after kit, I have a camera to clean as I've got a couple of mega dust bunnies grrr. :)

going a bit off topic here but I had my 5d cleaned recently by a camera shop in Cleethorpes. He did a fantastic job and only took 2 minutes whilst I waited
