Is it worth keeping/selling?

Yes
I have a well used Nikon D40X, probably around 25K actuations. I now have the D300 and love it... Use the D40X as a backup, but is it worthwhile changing to something that is a little more camera?

Is it even worth selling the D40X?

I have no issue carrying the D300 while I hike up Snowdon, etc. The D40X is a very capable camera, the only issue I have, is that it will not AF a lot of the lenses I have, so not a true backup....

Well, if you have the money spare, and you need the AF for just a backup body then I'd upgrade it.

The AF would be nice to have... A decent 2nd/backup would probably be better for me, but not essential. I just keep thinking that someone else might get some more use out of the D40X than I currently do.

Looking at your sig. the only lenses that will not AF are the 55mm macro (which is a manual lens anyway) and the 300mm....is that right?

I know about the 55mm, still one of my favs!

Will the sigma 70-200? I assumed it would not... Also looking to swap my 35mm for an 85mm soon!

Have you thought about getting it converted to a IR camera?

You could trade it for a D70 for around the same money, lower pixels but more lens friendly.

sorry to gate crash - but what would be invovled in doing that? Would be on a D50 in my case

Found this on the net, I've never done it, looks like you'd have to be comfortable with electronics, otherwise it's quite expensive to get it done by them.

There are companies in the UK that do it, but again it's expensive.

It's fairly straightforward and easy to do (easier on a D70/s than a D50 iirc), but it needs to be done in a totally dust-free environment, otherwise it is very easy to get dust under the filter, meaning stripping it all down again :bang:

please remember guys, no what's it worth threads or selling outwith classifieds, thanks :)
