IS Lens question

Just a quick question - if a lens has IS, in Aperture-priority, does the camera know this and so adjust shutter speed in place of ISO to below 1/focal-length which it seems to use as a rule of thumb?

i.e. if your lens has 4-stops' worth of IS, will your body be aware of this and compensate SS to account for it?

Also: I've had my new camera and lens for 2 weeks now and it's been dull, overcast and cloudy every single flippin' day. Sort it.

IS is only there to stop camera shake at lower than normal shutter speeds IE if you are for example using a 200mm lens you would normally use a shutter speed of 1-250th when hand held now with IS activated you should in theory be able to go down 3 to 4 levels on your shutter speed as the mechanics inside will aid or even stop camera shake thus using 1-60th or even 1-30th should be possible.

If your using a tripod this doesnt really matter, some say switch it off others say not too.

A quick test says not.

Some lenses detect they are on a tripod and switch IS off automatically. Others don't and you should switch off manually, otherwise the image starts moving about.
