Is my HS10 Faulty?

Hoping someone can help me -

I've had my HS10 since January and now when I'm trying to take a photo the camera continually turns itself off and on again? Mostly the screen goes blank and the white fuji image comes up and it turns itself back on again straight away, whereas sometimes the screen will go blank and it refuses to turn itself back on for several minutes. When it's trying to turn itself on I can hear it making a ticking noise like a clock but nothing happens. I've put fresh batteries in but that's all I can think to do! Anyone help?
 
Does it switch off in play modes or just the taking pictures modes? I'd also try changing to a different card in case that is what is giving it the hump. If it still does it with fresh batteries and a fresh card in several different modes then it does point to it being faulty. Also try a factory reset just in case a rogue setting has got in there somehow.
 
Yes the zoom moves in and out, but it's a hand operated one not by a button. As far as I know it doesn't switch off in viewing mode (at least it hasn't yet), only when I'm trying to take a picture.

I've noticed it's only a short tick when it won't turn on, but as it turns on the ticking noise continues but gets longer to be like a second long as oppose to a fraction of a second if you understand? If that makes any difference?!
