Hi

I took the attached at the park this afternoon and have noticed on a number of occasion that the highlights are a bit patchy, is this my doing in the way I am taking the picture or is my xf1 broken again.

As per pic 1, the top right, just above the trees does not seem to have exposed correctly compared to the rest of the sky/clouds:

Hey Kev, definately not right. Could it be the over exposing issue that has plagued some XF's? If it's still in warranty I would be tempted to return it to be checked over/repaired by Fuji.

Thank you both, it seems to do this indoors as well. Exposure comp is at 0. It is still in warrant till Feb 2015 I believe.

Will try and take a few more pics and see how it goes before I contact Fuji.

Thank you, I have had a look through other photos and it seem to happen in the same area. All the ones that have the issues are take at a very slow shutter speed below 1/25ths.

I have reset the camera and will take a few shots tomorrow to see if the issue comes up, if it does I will email fuji the pic and see what they say.

Will keep the thread updated.
 
May be I am not metering correctly, will give it another go tomorrow.

I try to meter, compose and shoot with the xf1, may that is where I am going wrong.

Mines on average and I meter where ever the focus point is.

It doesn't look like user error to me, I'm thinking it's the start of the lens error issue. There's a thread on dpreview about someones xf1 over exposing. I know Alan Dow's had this issue and he sent it to Fuji for repair.
 
I have already sent my one in for the lens error issue and they said that they replace the lens. Not going to be happy if there is another problem. :(

Just sent an email to fuji with some examples of unedited jpegs.

Why are you spot metering?

And with the X-F1, if you increase the ISO do you get the benfit of Dynamic Range boosting on the JPGs?
 
Hi Alastair,

I had changed the metering when I was using it in low light indoor and also when taking some shots out doors where I could not get the correct exposure.

With regards to the second point, I have to say I have no idea. Sorry.

Try again with evaluative mode, because with a high contrast scene like those above I would expect the sky to blow when metering for the centre-spot only.

It's taken at 5:15pm, are you shooting into the sun?

Check your manual for the DR modes, they're very useful for scenes with high dyanamic range if you're using the in-camera JPG.
 
Thanks, will try it out. I have also had similar issues on some indoor shots, but they were very slow shutter speed.

Will try out what you have suggested tomorrow.
 
Update.

Looks like it may have been a user error and had some smudges on the lens. Seems to be working well, just need to go to the park and try and take the same pics above.
 
YEP, well happy... thought I would have to send it back.. just need to do a bit more testing. Fingers crossed.
