Hi guys, this may sound a bit vague but I've just bought my first lens (apart from the kit lens) - a Canon 55-250 IS

Is it normal for the lens to make quite a bit of noise when focusing or stabilising? The kit lens seems dead quiet in comparison and on a couple of occasions it the IS seems to have 'jumped' for lack of a better expression. The picture through the viewfinder just flicks across!

Normal or not??

Mine is quite quiet, with a slight buzz. The image does jump occassionally so I would agree with the others that it is normal. The IS is great though, probably Canon's best yet despite the low price.

yes, as above, with IS switched on you'll hear it buzzing as the IS works it's magic, without the IS on, you'll just hear the focusing motor (y)

Yup the jump is when you've moved it so much it can't compensate.

Less cafeine I find helps :D

You'll also find that the IS runs on for a couple of seconds after you take your finger off the button. It'll often jerk a wee bit when it parks.
