Is the Canon 55-250mm worth getting, over the Sigma 70-300?

Yes
I've already got the sigma, but I'm wondering if it's worth selling that in favour of the IS that the 55-250 provides, granted it's 50mm less on the long end but hte IQ seems to be better than the Sigma.

Is it worth getting the 55-250 instead? What are people's thoughts on the IQ between these two?

Thanks!
Rob

There's a 55-250 in the For Sale forum for £140 posted. I'm tempted too :)

I've not tried the Sigma, but the 55-250 is a cracking lens, and the IS is superb. With some care you can use silly slow shutter speeds at 250mm and the IS will save it. The 55-250 lives on my camera and is my most used lens.

55-250 is a great lens for the money. I'd snap up that one in the for sale section at that price if I didn't already have one! :) I've been amazed with some shots I've taken at 250mm at night.....my first telephoto with IS though so simple things please me!

250mm, late dusk, handheld 1/20sec. Not the sharpest I got from that set either, just the only one I got on flickr to hand :)
