Yes
I had been thinking about getting a D40 or a D60 but in the end decided that a D200 would probably be more suitable as a partner for my D2Hs. Anyway, I've been thinking again (always dangerous) and wondering how much better the D300 is over the D200 in anticipation of all the used D300's that will be on the used market as from tomorrow with the coming of the D300S.;)

The D300, I found was much better than the D200 in AF and ISO perfromance. However I never really liked either and swapped to D3 - I still have my D2Hs - I think if you like the pro spec body you will be dissapointed with anything less. Just find another D2Hs!!

Yes.

Next question please ;)

I bought my D200 whilst the D300 was imminent. It actually came out about 4-5 months afterwards but when it did I wasn't all that bothered. They are very similar cameras in a number of ways the big difference is in ISO performance. The D200 ISO performance is not really that brilliant. Most of my stuff was shot outside or with the flash and in those circs they were very close. The extra mpix is not really that relevant either.

The live view is an extra that could be worth having if you like macro stuff.

Basically you are looking at twice the price for the jump in ISO, is it worth that to you?

Mrs C thinks it is worth that! She is about to get a D300 for Xmas, I don't think it is and I will be happy keeping my D200 as my second body.
