Is the debt worth it?

Yes
Basically I'm getting £550 ish worth of lighting kit off the old parents for x mass.

BUT...... I have been asked to do 3 portrait shoots before xmass.... So my good old dad said he can loan me the money for the kit if I need it.

So, debt free and get it for x mass with possibly losing the jobs.

Or, get it and do the jobs getting some money back in, but still being in debt.

What to do?

get it now and not get a present on 25/12?

advance xmas pressie?

I'm a little confused here........

You are being lent the money to buy your xmas pressie if you have it before xmas?

Why not just give you the pressie early?

Not quite, mother won't let it come early. So my dad wink wink secretly lending me the money lol which would leave more money to spend at x mass lol but then i would have the debt

As mentioned above, just tell them to get you your prezzie early - jod done, do debt, no worries! :D

EDIT: just seen your response...

hmm, so your dad is lending you the money, but he would be buying you the kit anyways.....so let him pay himself back.... ;)

1) Do as above
2) Get it early, give him the boxes to wrap up for Xmas
3) Use it for your shoots then give it back

Digital.... The x mass present isn't money as my mother will always want mento open things lol no matter how old I get! So she can't find out my dad lent me it.... Silly I know but must keep the mother happy!

How much dosh will the shoots bring in?

If it is say £50 per shoot then is £400 a lot of money to you?

It is all relative ! I know people who blow that on a night out and others know would have to save for a year and end up having to use it part way through that year on a bill.

£550 quid for xmas?!?!? whatever happened to getting a tangerine and a bag of walnuts? :D

do it and sell, I had to borrow a couplea hundred from a mate to buy my dye sub but I paid him back and its making money

I really want to get it now, that leaves more for x mass too :-D
My mrs will be so mad! I actually think that's what I am more scared of!!

Any one wanna lend me some balls?

Have you never heard of "You'll never guess what I got on the cheap and it wil be fantastic for photographing <insert something of hers>. Not only that but it will be paid for by the three shoots I have lined up"

Hang on a minute - you have a wife and yet you are still getting £550 worth of Christmas Pressies of your folks.

You lucky b@stard!!

Get the stuff now, and use the money from the shoots to pay of the debt.

Speculate to Accumulate!

Tried that..... Mother won't allow it!

I got about that far Adam and then stopped seeing this as any sort business decision. ;)

If you're going to be mercenary about the decision, if you borrow the cash and get the lights now. What are you going to get for Christmas? Will it be as good as the lights?

If not, do the shoots outdoors and get the flash kit as your pressie. :D
