Yes
As above, I've heard rumours that an updated 70-200 2.8l is will be released soon. I've not heard any specific timings though. Is it likely to be in the next few months? reason i ask is i'm after a used 70-200 and i'm wondering if it's best to hold on in case it causes a drop in prices...

i know that could be the case, i don't physically need one for about 2-3 months though, so i'm wondering if its advisable to act if i see a good deal etc...

Canon rumours seem pretty confident the 70-200 2.8 IS will be announced on the 24th, however do NOT expect the price to drop of the existing one as RRP will probably be 400-500 more than the existing model :(

I would be very surprised if there is anything greatly different from the current one to justify spending the likely higher price. Most of Canons L series lenses have been the same for years. Take my 70-200 F4 L from 5 years ago, I had a play with a new one and as far as I could work out they have just changed the moulding on the switches.

Was trying to thing how they can change it much?

i think i heard it has a new generation IS. As far as the optics go, not sure what they could change there. If we're looking at an announcement on the 24th, maybe a release by the end of the year/ the way i say it there are always gear heads looking to offload. might drop the price on a used 2.8 is by a bit.

This lens doesn't seem to need much of a refresh, but who knows.

You can get $150 cashback on it at the moment in the US, but then there's cashback on a dozen other lenses too, and loads of other Canon stuff. $500 off a 200L 2

No lenses currently cashback in the UK.

Kerso's price for a 70-200L 2.8 IS was £1229 last week.

Bear in mind that VAT will be going back up at the end of the year, so don't procrastinate too long :)

Canons new Hybrid IS system is no doubt due to be incorporated into all Canon EF lenses at some stage -or rather existing IS lenses, so I'm sure the new 70-200L will be featuring the Hybrid IS system. Whether the lenses will have any other changes of real note is questionable. It certainly wouldn't prevent me from buying now, and the new system is unlikely to make me want to trade up any of my lenses for this new IS system alone. I can't see this IS system having a great affect on the value of existing lenses.

hmm....i can imagine the new one probably going for about £2000 at this rate....

They'd be better off refreshing the 24-70 IMO.

The current 70-200 doesn't have much wrong with it.

i'm sure they'll find a way to make people want it...
