Is the X100T still a good shout as my DSLR backup?

I suspect this is going to cause a lot of controversy. I currently shoot on a d800 / d4s etc etc . However I have been itching for a fixed 35mm to take when I don't want to carry around alot of gear. Ive seen many many prophotogs going for the Fuji X100t but i'm conscious its over a year old now! Is this still a good shout , or should i save for form the RX100IV. This camera is only every going to be used for photos on the street.

Any advice much appreciated!
 
Actually i want to live with only a prime to keep things simple. But the only thing that is holding me back is the age (i.e. over a year). are there any other equivalents i should be looking at. Ofcourse the New sony RXRmk2 is the ideal but its way way too expensive.

The X100T is an absolute fabulous piece of kit and with Fuji's well known firmware support, it will be cared for for quite a while and i doubt a replacement is on the cards anytime soon.

Anyway, 'X100U' sounds tosh.

thanks for you're input. The age is a concern not because i think it will break. only because is there anything else that has been released in that year that i should be considering...
 
The x100t is still a fantastic camera. I love mine. Be warned, there's a definite learning curve if you're coming from a dslr as your normal camera. Worth planning a few days where you don't mind if you don't quite get what you want and then take only the x100t to get to grips with it.

You miss my point... Your D800 is 'old' but it hasn't become rubbish because a new model has superseded it.

The X100T was excellent when it was released. It will still be excellent when it is replaced in a year or so.

Don't hang about. Get one bought and start enjoying it.
 
For the kind of photography it is suited for, the X100T is going to be perfectly adequate for years to come.
 
I agree with the above statements.I have my X100s and it is still a fantastic piece of kit and Fuji's firmware support is excellent.

It's difficult to answer this honestly without being insulting.

To get the answer, you should box up your D800 and post it to me for destruction, you'll need to replace it with a D810, which isn't going to last long either.

Any older lenses, they need to be packed up too, and of course all of that 'crop camera' nonsense you've got hanging about. :)

Hi Thanks for that, it was extremely helpful.

I think many of you have missed my point here... I was only asking just incase someone else had considered the x100t and gone for another option instead (that i may not have considered), not necessarily for fuji "upgrade" ...just a different option, as many new cameras have been released by other camera manufacturers since the x100t has been out that i may not have seen or considered.

I think the way to look at it is that it's been out a year now and you therefore wont be paying a day one just released price and might in fact bag a bargain.

Well I've re-read your question, and it's definitely not what you asked.

I think you want to know if there are alternatives from other manufacturers beyond what you've considered, but if you read all the responses, no-one really picked up on that. It might be that we're all dim, or it might just be that you failed to get your question across.

Try this:

I'm thinking of buying the x100t, but before I press the button, what are the alternatives?

Personally, I'm no expert, but I can't see any reason not to buy the Fuji :)
 
Well there are the Sigma DPM range of cameras... Astounding image quality and sharpness but take about 3 years to focus and the battery is flat after about 4 shots. No VF either.

There is the Ricoh GR range of cameras... Very customisable and again, great IQ. No viewfinder though which is an instant turn off.

Sony RX100 series. Great little cameras which seem to have a good balance. Ain't no Fooj though.

There is also the Leica Q... £££££££££££

The short answer is 'NO'. The Fuji still wins imo. And you can start to dress like a hipster and grow a beard and not feel like an imposter.
 
I love my X100T it does shoot lovely images. The photo you see is only as good as the camera you have with you. The Fuji covers this.
 
Fuji all day long. I had the Sony and hated it.

1) It feels like a toy when you're used to a DSLR.
2) I would often find the flimsy lens window propped open when it had been in my bag.
3) The skin tones compared to the Fuji were :hungover:
 
I have toyed with the idea of getting the Sony RX100 IV for a family go anywhere camera as they would find using my D750 difficult. The Fuji X100T has also appeared on my want list but as of yet neither are in my possession!
 
Any of the X100 Fuji's will serve you well. If focus speed is less important the original can be picked up for very little money. The X100S is noticeably faster and again can be picked up for very reasonable amounts second hand. The X100T has a few nice refinements but personally I didn't notice much speed improvement.

I've had all three, went back to the original but just recently sold it to get another X100T. The only reason for me going for the T rather than the S is being able to customise the controls more to be very similar to my Fuji X-T1.

Sorry for waffling and not really adding anything that hasn't been said, but I'm bored sitting here waiting for a delivery of a shiny X100T :D

The T is very similar in a control sense
And I don't miss the XT now much

Really, bloody hell I cant believe this is true. So I dont need a new mac every year either? I am surprised I made such a good living with the Nikon d70, it is terrible now!!!

I have upgrade every time they release one!!! :D :exit:
 
I still prefer the x100 image wise to any later incarnations having had the s and had some time though not owning the others but took photos and saved them and i just like the look of the bayer sensor images better than the trans but others prefer the trans so up to you

Search out a Classic X100. They're still fabulous.
Still plenty good enough for street..

I shoot a D750 but got the T as my lightweight option, or travel camera. Sure, a D750 will beat it in terms of IQ & speed but its very close. Its about as DSLR like as you can get, and it is fantastic.
 
So, X100T or Sigma 24mm Art ( on a D7200)? Just wondering what others would go for. Size not really an issue, if it was I'd generally use my phone.
 
I considered it, but went for the X-Pro1 instead, so I could change lenses if ever I needed to.
The Fujis are great quality lightweight cameras.
Great camera, and lenses, but in the end I decided it wasn't for me, so it's up for sale.

One "feature" of the Fujis is the number of firmware updates released for their cameras.
Since getting my X-Pro1 I must have updated the firmware at least 5 times, each time adding a new improved feature or tweak.
I wish all camera manufacturers were as good at listening to customer feedback and reacting to it where possible.
