As many of you know I'm looking for a new camera.

I've done quite a lot of research into models lenses etc

Is this a good buy price wise ?

Warehouse express
Canon 500d with 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS for £719.
The zoom lens is worth £200

The Jessops equivalent would be the £550d with 18-55 IS for £599 then buy additional lens

Are you set on just Canon :shrug: Cos you could asked Stewart at DigitalDepot (TP member) althou he does mainly Nikon stuff and maybe able to help you out - althou like I said its mainly Nikon gear - but may be worth dropping him a line....
 
Thanks for that. I've tried a Canon 500d and like it. Not had enough time to play with Nikon really. Would be looking at d5000. Jessops have good offer on that at the moment with 2 lenses for £499 both IS lenses too.

That Nikon Deal is meant to be good! Should get down to Jessops and have a play, no point buying a camera without holding it first.
 
It looks a good price for that package.. if that body and those lenses are the right ones for what you want..

It's worth putting a price request to Kerso as I'm sure he could do a deal on the 500D bundle.

Just bear the following phrases in mind..
  • "Autofocus"
  • "Medium- and long-term lens choices"
Nothing wrong with Nikon entry-level DSLRs, but you do need to have your eyes open about all the specifications.

IIRC It does have AF but you'll need AF-S lenses (Nikon) or HSM if it was Sigma - not sure about Tokina or Tamron thou - its Nikon AF-D lenses that dont AF they'll only MF ... If im wrong then I'm sure someone will correct it :$

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nikon_F-mount_lenses_with_integrated_autofocus_motors should give you some idea on the lenses that you can use with a D5000 or similar Nikon body

definitely a much better camera than the d5000 (better handling, viewfinder, focusing). The lens is longer than the standard Nikon kit lens so it saves you from buying a second one until you know what you actually want to shoot.

Best way to do it - try these out before you buy - also take a memory card so you can decide/compare the pictures when you get home...

And of course the Sony has on board camera stabilization
 
argos extra in selby have 1 canon 500d and 18-55 lens in stock at 469-00
i would they buy a used 55-250 for about 100-110 there always for sale
