Oh........
None of the Microsoft pages are loading for me.
Am I infected![]()
Possibly, one thing the virus does is to block access to certain sites.

Download that and see if it can help you.
Oh CRAP.
Installed Avast, it found a few malware files, and deleted them.
Then I tried the Malicious Software Removal Tool, and it found and deleted 1 infected file. It was the conficker virus
Where the HELL did that come from.
I've seriously no idea how I got it. Haven't been on any 'dodgy' website at all....
Now it's gone, I can get onto the Microsoft website and start Windows update.
Incidentally, in Services the automatic updates were disabled, but in Windows control panel it was active. I don't know if this is something to do with the virus, but I certainly didn't disable it.

it might of sneeked in months ago matey. can come in on infected USB drives etc etc so not just dodgy websites..
gone now though so thats all good, just keep your avast up to date!

I wouldn't worry too much as someone who was involved in updating a large system to Y2k compliance the risk that something could go wrong was enough to make the investment in testing and rework worthwhile.
It's never as bad as it seems. If you are really worried my advise is to switch off your computer (and unplug your modem/router) on March 31st and leave it off for a couple of days. If this is a major issue it'll be reported in the paper and a solution will be identified which you can apply when you next turn on the computer.
Yes that's true.
Done a thorough scan with the Windows malware tool, and it found another one!
Will keep Avast up to date. Although it didn't find the virus.......
