Just got a brand new camera (as been told by the store) but when I took my first shot and even though the file name is DSC_0001, Myshuttercount and Opanda IExif show the shutter count as 2.

I took only one shot on a brand new never been used memory card and when I open the card on my computer there is only one shot in the folder.

I know it is only one shot but surely that means that the camera has been used before?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Would someone really just take 1 photo with it?

may be the count is wrong, may be someone at the factory or the shop test fired the shutter , who cares

if thats all you have to worry about, count yourself lucky and enjoy your camera
 
Coming ........ only 1 click was done.

I'm sure there is more important things to worry about then 1 click on the shutter ......
 
Its not the one shot that worries me, its the fact that I've been told its brand new. All my other cameras started from zero.

Its exactly this gramps.

The hard plastic screen protector has got minor marks on it. The CD plastic bag is damaged where one opens it. These are issues I dont care about as I dont use them.

At least some Sony SLTs will increment by 2 rather than 1 under certain settings.

Fair enough some things, like this, do bother some people. Only way is to take it back if you're not happy with it.
Btw did you take the shot using mirror lock-up as I think that increments it double.

Oh dear. 1 measly click! I'm sure that the rest of the camera is now scrap!!!!:dummy:

Yeah live view, think it counts if you put it into liveview, don't think it matters if you press the button as with video it counts one release, I read on here somewhere, I will test it out.
 
Just to confirm, flicking it to liveview will increase the shutter count by 1 if you take a shot or not, I just checked mine, it was 1705.

I then put it into liveview then back out of liveview then another shot and it showed 1707.

Thanks, I have checked it myself and you are right. I have informed the store and did appologise.
 
I have just bought a brand new car and it has 20 miles on the clock, do you think it is used? I will see what the dealer has to say about this. :)

Did you use Live view at all before making that one exposure? If so, 2 is correct. Live view uses a shutter actuation.

No need to think like that, obviously some people forget what forums are for and just like to belittle people, ignore them, it's the internet after all :)

I too would be concerned about an expensive purchase if it was new or not.

I'm quite sure a lot of people would not want to get flogged a display model as new.

How do you come to the conclusion that this is an ex display model?

It has taken one shot, just one.How on Gods earth does that make it an ex display model, I would love to read your rationale behind this asinine post.

I have read the full thread and still don't understand where the idea of display model has come from?

Well, the OP sorted it out on page one, he knows now that it was from using liveview, so what I said cannot be related to this at all, (as I know from reading and understanding what I have just read) but the OP had concerns at the beginning about it being used.

My statement was just that, a statement,(''I'm quite sure'') not fact relating to the OP, whether it is used as a display model or a return, makes no difference, both would be classed as ''used''.
