Sigma usually print the mount fitting on the box (IIRC) and also mark it on the rear caps (just checked mine and they all say "For Nikon", moulded into the caps).
The good news is that they do actually make that lens in Sony fit, so it's possible. New price (as advertised on Sigma's site) is £319.99.
Make sure you get confirmation that the lens is Sony Alpha fit and keep electronic and hard (paper) copies of that confirmation, then, should it turn out not to be, you can reject it as not as described.
