No
A site I visit (saabs) has a thread running about police cars and has posted some police cars from around the world (its a foreign site)

One photo on the site was very recognisable as it one of mine from Sandtoft airfield, I dont mind them using it because its not a very good one but still it would have been nice to be asked and credited for it

I suppose they can only give credit if they knew who posted it. if it were me a quick e-mail to SAAB publicity dept would be the way I would go.

Bazza the thread it was found isnt the one that put it onto the website, that was just a thread detailing some quick police cars so I dug the website out, Kereta seem to have taken it from my flickr and published it

I would say yes, as the photo they've used dosen't link back to your Flickr account.

But I know very little about this sort of thing

If you can confidently use that sentance wihtout the words "seem to" then its theft. otherwise it isn't IMHO

Its obvious the photo is mine, and no permission was asked or given, I dont mind if my photos get used so long as the people wanting to use them have the decency to ask first and also credit me for the photo

This type of picture "hijacking" isn't uncommon, a flicker account or any other online photo storage is always open to it. As far as I can see there is only a few options when posting onto an account.

A=heavily watermark the photo
B=print your copywrite across a section of photo that would be hard to remove
C = Post a very low grade/small photo thats rubbish if blown up
D=don't put up photos that may /could be used by unscrupulous people.
E = contact the poster and ask for it to be removed or for payment

So if your minds made up.. what was your question for?

Don't forget to get hard copy prints of all the website where your image is shown BEFORE contacting them if you're going to chase them for money!

I think realspeed is right.

Happy ending..............owner of website has just emailed me and said the pic was found by one of its readers in Malysia and added, so I am chuffed really, he has offered payment and to be honest I wont accept as he seems to be very honest and trying to run a low key business, $3 to him may mean a weeks wages to a worker so I will decline, and let him just credit me with the photo..........hell I will probably send him some money for his staff lol

edit.......the website has credited me and thats good enough for a low res

They are using an image they have not bought the rights for..... It's theft! Any respectied agency would buy an image before using it!
