2.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed, 13 July 2010
By PS - See all my reviewsThis review is from: Opteka 650-2600mm High Definition Telephoto Lens for Canon EOS 60D, 50D, 40D, 30D, 20D, 7D, 5D, 1D, 300D, 350D, 400D, 450D, 500D, 550D & 1000D SLR Camera's (Electronics)
Whilst I appreciate that this was not an expensive purchase the quality of the product leaves a lot to be desired. The lens is heavy and the focusing adjustment is very very sensitive. Not really suitable for use in a hide. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Personally I wouldn't bother.

Bit daft frankly :O

The lens will be very slow - it's f/8 but lenses like that tend to loose a lot of light so call it f/11 in reality.

With that aperture in mind you'll struggle to get your shutter speeds up, and you're going to need to shoot at 1/2000+ to get unshaken pictures at focal lengths 1000mm+ I would guess?

Plus it's almost certainly soft and devoid of contrast.

But if you're taking spy photos or something it'll probably be ideal.

These are on eBay for like £90 give or take. There was a big discussion on one of the forums regarding these lenses i think a group of forum members clubbed together bought one just to write a review on it.

As far as i remember you would be better off with milk bottles

Given that its at F16 when shooting at 1300mm, then with the 2xTC in place it will become a 2600 F32! not a lot of use in the real world, I would hazard a guess that it will have CA like a migraine as well
