Is this lens any good?

Depends what you want it to do really?

In good strong light it will be fine, it's cheap enough to try out and if you don't like it you can easily resell it for near the same price

No one can really advise you on this properly without knowing what you want to do with it.

Depending on your intended use for it, it could be fantastic or it could be a complete waste of money.

I don't mean that this is a bad lens (I think it's price/performance ratio is quite good, in fact), but it has to suit what you shoot to get any of this value from it.

If you were buying this lens to shoot fast moving unicorns indoors without flash, then this lens probably wouldn't be suitable (a fanciful example I know, but you get the idea). If it's to complement your 18-55 lens on holiday, then yes, it would likely do the trick.

I have a sigma version on my Sony a77 & as a walkabout general purpose lens they have a good focal range and well suited to just that, a walkabout everyday lens and at that price, why not?

Les

I've got one on my d7000, it's light, 10cm long and works fine for general day to day shots

I've just added a an equally light/basic Nikor 18-55

Thanks, I think I will get this one as it is cheap and from the posts here it seems like it would come in handy for day to day use :)
