Is this lens fungus?

I've got 2 marks on the inside of my lens, which look like finger print marks. They don't look like the examples of lens fungus I've seen online before, but I've taken some macro shots and I'm not sure.

You can barely see it in this pic, it's at the top of the glass:

Looking at picture 3, yes I would say it's fungus. I had a similiar situation with a M42 teleconvertor last week, Luckily for me I was able to strip and clean with IPA.

Is that a Nikon 80-200 type lens???? you can probably send off and have cleaned by some idependent service centre.

Thanks. Yes it's an 80-200. I imagine that wouldn't be cheap.

I think so. Had some on a sigma 70-200 f/2.8 off eBay a good few years ago. Didn't make any noticeable difference to the shots but I sent it back anyway. Doesn't look like it has etched the glass and where it is it's unlikely to have a pronounced effect. Unless it spreads.

It so small, and so close to the edge of the glass, I can't imagine it could effect the pictures. But I'm selling the lens, so it's a problem.

Simon, I've a couple of old lenses I bought from car boots that have fungus or stuck apertures. Thought about having a go at stippling them down. Is it an easy job?

That's the problem, had the same thing with an Sigma 70-200 F2.8,repair bill was £200 enders up taking a big loss on it

As the weather is changing try leaving on a window cill in bright sunlight it may shrink it. I have had Nikon 28-85 which had fungus and I left on window cill and it shrunk, I also wiped lens with IPA I dont know if that had some help.

There is a Nikon authorised service dealer in Surrey I think, who quoted me £50.00 to repair the 28-85. As I was changing from Nikon to Fuji at the time I didnt bother. I will try to find his details as I bought a 28-105 off him.

The only lens I have stripped is the Vivitar M42 teleconvertor mention above. Looking at the lens there were some gaps on holding ring to enable me to open the lens using jewellers screw drivers. I started the lens off with the screw drivers and then opened by hand. In the TC there were four elements and a spacer it was easy to strip and clean. I haven't tried any other lenses sorry.

I think the phone would just keep interrupting him which you know if you've very taken anything apart that has very tiny screws normally ends up with the smallest one going 'ping' across the room.

It does look like fungus ive had it once in a Canon L lens and i sent it too Miles at MW camera repairs it cost £110 so likely same or very similar price for yours too be sorted id guess.
