Is this normal? Just registered a used 17-55mm on the Nikon website

Hi,

I've just registered my newly purchased used 17-55mm f2.8 Nikon on their website, does this mean its never been registered before or is this normal and more importantly does this mean I have a years warranty? :D
 
If I recall correctly Nikon say in their terms and conditions that you have to supply the reciept of purchase at the point of repair.

If I'm right, you're out of luck!

If a serial has been registered can it be registered again? I would have thought not. I have a 6 month warranty through LCE where I bought it so I'm not that bothered, just thought it strange.

Not everybody bothers to register their purchases. It's not necessary in order to activate the warranty, whatever the manufacturer tells you. As far as I'm aware there are only two real purposes to registration:
(1) so that the manufacturer can contact you if there's a serious problem which requires a recall;
(2) so that they can send you tons of marketing bumf.
Guess which is most likely?

Is it a reciept from the second hand sale or the original sale? If it's for the second hand sale then it won't be accepted by Nikon.

If it's from the original sale what's the date on it? You only get 12 months from the date of sale, not the registration.

In answer to your other question, no. Once it's been registered with Nikon it cannot be registered (for warranty) by someone else.
 
You can de-register Nikon stuff for example if you sell something, and I understand it can then simply be re-registered by the new owner. Nothing warranty related of course, but just because yours isn't registered doesn't mean it never has been.

Yes, just give Nikon a call and they'll transfer the registration.

As for the web registration -- if a serial number is in the system it won't accept a new registration and you have to give them a call. Whether they use the same list for online and paper based registrations :shrug:

I seem to recall you could get Nikon Pro magazine if you registered three 'professional' items in a single year. ...which may or may not fall into:
