Is this Panasonic DMC-TZ6 fit for the bin?

My mother-in-law asked if I could help with her camera. About once every six pictures you get a shot with a load of interference across it:

Anyone any ideas why it might be doing this and what it might take to fix it?

I've updated the firmware as it was three revisions behind, but the problem is the same.

Phil,

Is there any chance of an uncompressed file by email. Looking closely, there is detail behind the stripes but that may have occurred in resizing and not on the original.

I wouldn't be looking at a specific storage end problem as the lines are neither straight nor parallel....weird.

Final note.....only a true nerd would watermark an image like that one
