I've been rationalising my RAW files and transferring them all to an external drive over the last few days.

It's happened twice now.

In the region of a 1000 RAW's, in a dozen or so folders, have just disappeared. At first I thought I may have mistakenly deleted them, but they weren't in the recycle bin. Fortunately, they were backed up on Carbonite, so I did a restore.

Then it happened again. The folders were still there, but the contents? God knows. Certainly not in the recycle bin.

This shouldn't happen, should it?

How are you transferring them over? If your using a program that backs up stuff, it might be doing something weird if it cant find a copy on your local drive, and its there on the back up drive, it deletes the contents on the back up drive, when it back ups data from your local drive.

Are you creating a folder first and then copy and pasteing them into that.
Try downloading this freeware utility, always handy to have anyway, create a folder and paste your files into it, if it doesnt show up, use the Recuva file HERE.
