Is this right/make sense? I've ask Nikon about AF-D type lens and camera focus motor

Question:

"I was wondering if this can cause major harm to the lens or body. I have a AF-D type of lens and the auto focus is driven by the camera focus motor. When i put the lens on manual mode i always forgot to pop the camera to manual mode and turn the focus ring. The focus ring is obviously stiffer because is still on auto focus mode, was wondering can this cause damage to my camera body?

I only accidentally done this twice when trying to manual focus and only realise when i feel the ring is stiffer."

Answer:

"There is no problem in only switching the lens to M and not the body. Even though technically the lens and camera motor will still be connected (hence the stiffer turning action) this will not harm the internal motor in the body in any way.

Might not harm the motor in the body, but on cheaper lenses I'd be worried about it stripping gears in the lens.

I would be very surprised if nikon advised you wrongly about their own equipment though.

reason i ask Nikon is sometimes when you have several different lens type with you, you forgot to change setting.

Like fully manual lens, AF-D motor driven type lens and Af-S lens.

After using AF-S lens with manual override focus and then switch to AF-D lens you forget you have to flick the switch on the camera body.

No damage had been done so far just something i want to clarified thats all, i always notice i haven't done something when the focus ring feels very stiff after a little notch.
