Is this the triumph of hope...

Yes
... over experience I wonder?

I've just ordered my 4th D800 body in an attempt to get one without the dreaded left AF issue.

I had two within a week from WEX last June and both suffered. I figured these were from the same batch so waited until end of August last year and tried from another supplier. Sadly the same result except this time I decided to let Nikon try and fix it. Well suffice to say that after two trips to them, both of which made it worse, I returned it.

I was on the verge of moving to Canon at great expense when someone assured me that Nikon have it sorted it by now, so I decided to give it one more go. If this is faulty then it's Canon for me I'm afraid. They've had almost 18 months to sort things out and I wouldn't let Nikon try a repair again after the nonsense I had to deal with last time.

It's a shame because people who had the good ones seem really happy. Ah well. I should know soon enough.

Here's hoping :)

It seems to be a matter of luck. I have a D800, purchased end of April 2013, and it has no issues whatsoever. I have a D600, purchased in early Feb 2013, and it has the dust issue pretty bad. I wish you good luck!

You've certainly been more unlucky than most, certainly against the odds.

If you don't play the lottery, I'd advise you do.

Well the camera is at home, having arrived this morning. Unfortunately I won't be back until Friday so I will have to wait until then to try it out. I'm really, really, really, hoping this one will be all right. I wish I could feel more confident though
