:shrug: Yes, it truly is something I'd not buy and yes, I truly think that all cameras at a given price point offer relatively similar performance such that buying one over the other with a view that it is somehow much more technically superior will still not make you Leibovitz, Penn, Bailey etc etc.
If you have specific requirements then look at cameras that meet them eg. shutter speed 1/8000s, flash x-sync speed 1/250s, >8fps, high ISO etc etc and then buy the one that feels best/ matches budget. If you only want to 'take photos' then buy any camera you like the feel off or meets your budget- 500D, 550D, 600D, D5000, D5100 etc etc- not exactly that much between any of them- if I gave someone a D5000 and they came back with 'I couldn't get the photo because I didn't have a 600D' I'd be raising an eyebrow- or maybe even two
