Is this worth buying (Battery Grip)

I want to get the one on the amazon site, I just cant understand why its so cheap, and tbh something that is to be used as a battery grip and so cheap says to me trouble :/ lol
 
Well I do photography as a hobbie, Im wanting it so it means I haved to charge less, but then again it may seem pointless as I dont use my camera all the time but I do use it a lotish..

Yeah I got a linkdelight (weird name) one from ebay for about £25 and its brilliant, works well seems solid enough and makes the camera much better to handle :thumbs:
 
Recently got the linkdelight one, from ebay, for my d90. Best £25 I've spend :thumbs:
 
A battery grip is always worth the money. I couldn't go without mine anymore, but on the other hand I wouldn't buy third party. Although others recommend them, I'd rather go for a second hand Canon/Nikon one.
 
If buying a battery grip is about power rather than comfort for portrait photos then I seriously doubt there are many photographers who need one. I mean how many pics can you take off one charge in one day? I don't know but its gotta be 700+ and how many photographers, other than perhaps professionals, do that. Makes much more sense to just carry a spare charged battery just in case.

Mind you, perhaps the OP just wants to make his camera look bigger and him more professional?

It's worth noting that the vertical shutter works on IR on the grips for D40 et al, so it works the same way a remote does. Personally I like having the balance and extra battery a grip gives you, but the vertical shutter release is next to useless (IMO)
 
I bought a Meike mainly for the extra grip as i've got big hands but also to balance out against my 70-200 f/2.8.
I wouldn't be without one personally unless i was able to afford to go to a more pro set up where the bodies seem to me to have ample grip.

Interesting. I often wondered if a grip would help balance out a 70-200 f/2.8 and extender, or the extra weight would make it even worse. Nice to know it would.

Makes your camera look so much more 'pro' too. ;)
 
@ James,i find that the 70-200 wants to point to the ground when the body doesn't have the grip attatched and i always seem to be fighting the weight in order to counter that effect which after a while caused me an annoying ache over the middle of my hand from the tip of the thumb area across.

When i added the grip with two batteries although it added extra weight it also enabled me to spread my hand over a wider area and the ache disappeared and give me better balance to boot.
 
i've just bought a canon grip for my 7d, and found that when i tested it in the shop the camera felt much easier to hold with it on.
 
I've been thinking about getting one of these for my d90 because it's a bit small in my hands. Does the one on ebay take an extra battery and does it need the extra battery to work?
 
Depends Chopchop, sometimes some people do deals with them included, Well pay day isnt far away now, so i think next time i get paid i`ll buy one, just when you have the mrs about a lot, the opinoin changes lol

Sorry if I didn't come across very clear there, I meant to ask- does the grip (which will hold 2 batteries) still work with only 1 battery fitted? The battery lasts for ages in my D90 so if I don't need an extra one to have the grip work, all the better (and cheaper!).
I've also got to wait for payday to get one, spent way too much this month :(
 
I read through hundreds of reviews to help me decided which way to go with this and finally took the chance and purchased a cheap grip from Amazon...

I really didnt expect much and thought it would be used for portraits only but now its on i cant take it off, funnily the 3rd party battery (7Day shop) does not work so i bought a 2nd genuine nikon. As for build quality i cant compare to the nikon version but it fits securely and does what it suppose too, the shutter button feels fine and half shutter focus feels more or less the same. I had no idea the balance and feel of the d90 could be improved so much for such a small amount of £'s

By the way i bought this in November last year and my opinion had not changed :thumbs:

Highly recommend a cheapy!

Yeah it works fine with one battery, does NOT work with 3rd Party batteries though, i had a 7 day shop which did not work so had to buy and other Genuin Nikon which i also bought from Amazon...

I have five 7dayshop batteries for my D90, and they work better than the Genuine Nikon one.

Are you sure you bought the right batteries, as there's both the en-el3 and the en-el3e versions.
 
Had on on my D200, the official Nikon one - improved handling no end. The other bonus was, apart from taking an extra EN-EL3, meant I could use AAs if I ever needed to. Of course, on some newer bodies it also helps to increase fps....

Hi, yeah it was the en-el3e which worked fine in the D90 but when installed in the cheap grip it did not register as being installed, tested it again in camera and it defo working ok. Strange 3rd party grip requires genuin batteries yet 3rd batts work fine in camera :shrug:
 
Have had both a cheap one and a genuine one in the past. The build quality of the genuine one is better, but not enough to justify the extra expense...

My 50D has a cheap grip on it, and I wouldnt go back to non-gripped now (other than the odd occasion I want the camera to be more discrete)
