IS use in sports

Could anyone explain why not please. Is it your shutter speed is high enough anyway?

It's as simnple as that yes. Plus IS can be slow to kick in..certainly slower than normal AF (I have found on my canon gear) and as such makes it useless for a lot of sport..

However some sports (such as motor sports) where panning is used so is IS I believe..

Thanks for the explanation. Panning in motorsport is where I usually turn off IS and autofocus, as I usually prefocus on a point and shoot there. I might turn off the IS for rugby and try that.

I've used IS for motorpsort especially when trying to get "movement in the shot which calls for a slower shutterspeed. Use too high a shuttespeed and it just freezes eveything making it look static. With amost every other sport I just turn it off.
