Issue with camera

I picked up a 2nd hand 5D2 yesterday and took it out today.
I'm happy with the clarity of the result, but there is a vertical line down all the photos that wasn't present with the same lens on my 7D1.
Is this a known mirror/sensor/camera issue that I can resolve easily myself or should I be looking to return it to the shop (which does accept returns and offers a warranty on 2nd hand sales).

Here are a few sample shots from today: ( the line as about 2/3 of the way towards the right side running perfectly vertically)

What ISO?
BTW, there are loads of people asking about the same problem (with the 5D2) if you Google.
 
ISO100 for them all. Didn't realise it was a common 'feature'.

I'll do some more research.

Not high ISO then :)
Just had another look, maybe not 'loads'!
Some similar to yours and some more extreme.
Another point was IS.
 
Ok,based on reading the posts in that thread I have tried the following:

Original Lens was a 300mm f/4 with IS enabled on mode 2
Changed lens to a 50mm 1.8 (obv no IS)- line still present at ISO100, ISO400, ISO2500
Changed CF Card - line still present

The line isn't visible in the viewfinder but is visible during playback on the camera screen.

So would it be fair to say it is a sensor fault and that the shop should deal with it under warranty?
 
Probably, but I'm not an expert by any means.
Only other option I can think of is resetting to factory settings.
 
Just done that, still the line is apparent.
Also tried with no lens and it still shows.
I'm going to take it back either tomorrow or Monday.
 
Yes, it is a large local dealer who states 14 days money back and 12 months warranty on all used goods, so I'm confident I'm not stuck with it.
The main concern is they have no other 5d2's in stock and I'd rather not be left without a camera.

Looks like I'll be either getting money back or face a lengthy wait for a repair :(
 
I hope you can get the camera sorted though if it was me I would rather have the money back! Perhaps online secondhand from WEX or Calumet etc. dealers with apparently good reputations?

On a related note the Tiffie in camo caught my eye and I found this info http://www.globalaviationresource.c...cial-scheme-eurofighter-typhoon-breaks-cover/ IMO a great tribute to those that served in WWII and those that were lost.

I would love to see this Tiffie.................................must try for some airshows this year???

The problem is that I'll not get enough back to buy a replacement 5D2 as that one has a non-functioning USB port and was only £600. I'm looking at another £150-£200 for the next cheapest ones..

There have been some really nice special edition paint jobs this year, some that I've not seen in the flesh yet. The camo one was the first time I'd seen it today and it looks awesome!

Ah! point taken..............though with the USB port 'gone' (is it a mechanical breakage of the port or something on the board ~ if the board what else might be wrong) and the odd line which could be anything from damage to the sensor surface itself (very rare), the AA filter with (unusually?) such a very regular line or perhaps something wrong with the hardware processor???

Is it there in both RAW and jpeg?
If you take an image with the lens cap on and then view it at 1:1 with the contrast pushed whichever way to emphasis it what do you see? Perhaps rather than the lens cap a clear blue sky (white wall) taken OOF like one would to check for dust bunnies what does the line look like? NB all taken at f22

FWIW I cannot readily think how such an even & regular line could be left on the AA filter so if on the sensor itself that would quite a costly fix and would the warranty cover such an expensive repair ~ time to sweet talk the shop into a deal for a fully functioning model at a price closer to your budget ;)

I'm wondering if a 70D would be a step up from the 7d1 in real terms if I can't stretch to a working 5d2...
FF was just an experiment, not a necessity.

Not sure on the AF and fps between the 5D2 and 6D but for aviation you decent functionality on both to get a good keeper rate IMO.
 
I was going to say Nikon, but I see you have invested in some lenses :)
I'll leave it to the Canon guys to help...

70D is £599 at Digitalrev, new.
7D is £629
 
I've been into the shop today and they have been brilliant. No quibbles at all, and they are sending it to Canon for repair at their expense.
Ok, I'm without a camera for a minimum of 10 days, but I should have a bargain of a 5d2 at the end of it.
Big thumbs up for Harrisons Cameras on Sheffield.:)
