We've been asked to go on holiday with some friends to Abruzzo in Italy.
I've been to Italy a few times but mainly the big cities, Rome, Florence, Venice etc. I remember seeing some fantastic pictures of L 'Aquila I think it was but wondered if anyone had any tips of where to go? There's some great coastline and mountains round there but I'm more interested in the buildings, the older and more dilapidated the better, so if anyone knows of any hill towns round there that would be great.
Also, recommendations of places to stay would be good too. We're deciding between moving around and staying in different hotels or just basing ourselves in one place, seen this kind of thing http://www.cottagestocastles.com/holidays-in-abruzzo.aspx and have to say that the private pools look great but no idea what the cost of living is around there.
