I've noticed that the Sony A700 and A380 (bodies) are roughly the same price

Is the A700 still the 'daddy'?

I think that it's just that Sony hasn't done any price increases of it's old equipment due to the change in Yen/$$/££ rates.
The new Sony cams have had their prices increased due to the value of the UKP.

Also the a700 is now pretty old and due for replacement which I guess will be sometime this year.

FYI, the Canon 40d is roughly the same price as the new Canon 500d (which I guess is in a similar situation)

I see

It's just that I'm looking to upgrade from my a200 and I don't know whether to get the a700 or wait to read the reviews on the new a380

Decisions, decisions........

(By the way, the a900 is a tad out of my price range ;))

Sorry, but when I think of the Sony a380 this is all I can picture in my mind :cuckoo:

yes it is :D

seriously though, the sony A380 should be an improvement over the A350,but in my opinion, the A700 is still going to be a better camera.accessing WB,ISO,shooting modes etc..are easily done with the buttons instead of going into the menu's..

i also feel the A380 is a bit gimmicky...but thats just my feeling on it..

Cheers, Stan

I went to PC World earlier and they had the a700 for £549 body-only, £20 less than Jessops!

I couldn't decide what to do and so in a fit of panic bought Shawn Barnett's "Sony A200 Focal Digital Camera Guide" instead.........

the A700 is awesome, really like mines.... never went back to the a200 since!

id really like another... just wish sony would match the 1d or D3 for AF etc.

mark....you should have got the A700 at that price ;)

i absolutely love mine

i've used the A350 once since i've had it...where the noise on the A350 is pretty bad at ISO 800,it's not as bad on the A700 at ISO 3200

Now that is interesting

I don't like using flash, so a good ISO range is important to me

I've been looking at the Bigma too, but at the moment it's hideously expensive! :(
