Been having loads of trouble photographing black birds due to underexposing and losing all the detail in them. This is the first time I've got something I'm quite happy with and I liked the composition of the horizontal bars around him.

Should I maybe crop out a bit from the left through to take away some of the empty space and the lighter coloured area on the bar he is standing on?

Hi Tommy, i also find it hard to get the detail in dark plumages. A tip im trying out is to point your lens at a grey or green object lock your focus then recompose on your subject.

It seems to give a better exposure, someone else may offer more advice.

As to your photo, a closer crop with the subject less central may work.

:agree: ... a slight crop as you suggest might work better for the composition and if you could lighten the Jackdaw a bit and give it a bit of a sharpen it may stand it... (y)

Oi... :cautious: ... you just mind where you're pointing and exposing that thing... :nono: ... that's my advice... :D

Good tip though Cuddy... ;)
