Jessopd afd 360 is inconsistent

I got the lessons afd 360 for Christmas and I'm currently not impressed.

I also have a Nikon sb400 which has performed perfectly over the last 9 months.

The Lessons flash is on auto but seems to do what it wants. It only seems to register the ISO, focal length when the flash is pointing straight forward, as soon as I angle it up it doesn't pick up those settings and seems to do what it wants and taking 3 photos of the same subject one after the other will give me a completely over blown image and 2 under exposed images. I am waiting for the ready light.

Any suggestions?
 
I have one of those flashes which I have used on several Nikons and it always performed well.
I suggest you take it back to Jessops ( lessons?) and tell them you are unhappy with it. They could either exchange or refund it. If you are lucky, you may find a sales assistant who knows something about cameras and he / she may be able to test it for you.

Its not faulty. If you point your flash head at your subject your lens can tell your flash the settings but if your flash head is not pointed at your subject how does your lens know the power needed to light your subject if it can't see what your flash head is pointed at?

Hope this makes sense lol.

Dittytd is right, if the flash is not pointing forwards it cannot be told what to do, it is not faulty

Either I am still alitle drunk from the festivities so was able to understand it too or I just talk gobbldy gook all the time too so was able to get what you meant:lol:

If you use TTL metering with a pre flash then it should not matter where the flash head is pointing...

I have the same flash. Mine is consistent with TTL. I use it on bounce all the time.

Have you switched on bracketing by mistake?? I'd check the exif and see what exposure settings are used. Also make sure some negative flash compensation or exposure compensation hasn't crept in somewhere.
