(In the basics section because I fear it's a very stupid question.)

I have a friend who has recently purchased a DSLR and has a birthday coming up; thought I'd get her a Jessops gift card so she could buy or put it towards something useful.

Reading about them on the Jessops website and the phrasing of it made me wonder: can you actually buy them in the shop or are they only available online?

Thanks for any help. :)

well i cannot see any reason why you cannot get them in the shop ,would imagine the not availble for pick up is as a gift voucher you may as well do it in the shop as you would be there to collect it anyway .

advantage of ordering from the web site is i can be sent to the person who is going to use it ....
betts do them in shop as tlde every one thats what i want for my birthday in a few weeks ,as have my eyes on a zoom lens lol

I couldn't think why not, except I can't remember seeing them and the activation code being e-mailed made me wonder. I'll be seeing the friend on her birthday, so would prefer to personally hand over; agree that, if it was being posted, they may as well do it for me (then I could blame them when it inevitably gets lost. ;))

Oh well, I'll drop by on my way home tomorrow. Be another chance to make a fool of myself in a common situation, if nothing else.

let me know the outcome on that asi am interested ,they must do them in the shop ,if they dont it is like turning business away ....i walked right by jessops today and never gave it a thought as i would have asked them....

can see the reason for emailing you the activation code would be if card was picked up by someone else they could not use it without actvation code ,therefore making is secure till you activate it or pass the code on to the person who recieves it ..

Mystery solved, they do sell gift cards in the shop. :)

New mystery: why do they always ask you your postcode?

just so you know, the gift cards when putting them through the tills show they are valid for 2 years.

it generally just asks for an address when it's over £50 sale, hardware or vouchers. It's just to make sure people aren't doing anything dodgy, which happens quite alot. It's the reason we have to have the receipts for returns now.

just so you know the till will allow us to find out how much is remaining on Gift Cards so if you are unsure just ask :D

when entering the address there is a little bit at the end whether or not the customer wants to be contacted, since day one i've always hit No as i don't want stuff sent to me. But if yours is clicked Yes (which is automatic) then ever so often if you've bought a camera/lens then you may get a letter about adding the Photo+ (accidental cover) as your normal manufacturing warranty comes to an end. (as you can add the cover anytime during the first year) other than that no-one else has complained about post.
