Jessops = Grey Imports?

Yes
I recently bought a Nikon d90 with 18-105 Kit, a SB900 and a 35mm f1.8.

I have just been to the Nikon site and tried to register my products for warranty. I registered the 35mm fine, and got my warranty.

Then i tried the d90 itself, and i got a warning about it being a grey import, same with the 18-105 and the SB900.

Who do i call, Nikon or Jessops? Could there be a mistake?

HELP!

I don't use Nikon but do the UK ones come sealed in the box with UK plug for the charger? If so and you have a UK plug it's either the serial is wrong or Nikon have cocked up with their export batches. I doubt if Jessops would supply grey but worth giving them a bell either way.

Your camera should have come with a Nikon warranty certificate bearing the camera serial and it should say that the distributor is Nikon UK Ltd.

If you have that then phone Nikon.
If you don't have that go back to Jessops and ask them to explain.

Nikon will not honour grey import warranties.
Usually when you register a product with Nikon you'll get an extra year's warranty.

Did you try registering on Nikon Europe as I don't ever recall seeing a serial number check.

Registration actually isn't anything to do with warranty.. so its a bit odd. You still have a valid warranty from purchase date whether you "register" it or not.

You need to register your camera body to get Nikon's extended 2 year warranty.

Same with other Nikon kit that has an extended warranty on offer.

Nor will Nikon give cashback if the product is a grey import.

The SB-900 and lens do not have an extra warranty. 1 year.

I don't know why you are talking about cashback, that is done via different process and none of the items he bought have a cashback offer...

(As Arclight says), you must register a new Nikon body within 30 days of purchase to take advantage of an additional years warranty. If you don't register, your valid warranty lasts for one year only.

As I understand it, Nikon offer worldwide warranty on lenses, not sure about flashguns, but definitely not bodies.

thanks for the info, i am going to give Nikon a call in the morning, will let you know what they say. fingers crossed.
