Just had this email (as they say watch this space)

"As a past customer of Jessops Photo, we wanted to thank you for your custom and support and update you with information on what is happening with the company now.

Jessops went into administration on 9 January 2013, however the good news is that the online photo business has been acquired by CeWe Color Ltd, who previously provided the photo service on behalf of Jessops. CeWe Color will continue to provide the service under license as Jessops Photo. At the moment, access to Jessops Photo is only available online but we are exploring a return to the high street and we'll keep you updated on that.

Once again, we'd like to thank you for your custom and support.

    Kind regards,"

I spoke to a couple of people at Focus who said that there could be fifty high street stores under the Jessops name appearing in the future.

I heard a while back that Peter Jones (dragons den) had bought the jessops name with the aim of providing an online setvice and maybe a handful of the better stores would return to the high street. Is CeWe Color*one of peter jones companies?

I walked past the St Albans shop this afternoon and the shutters were partially open.

I used to work in Jessops, but even I'll admit I prefered the variation of printing services available on the hour. A postal service is fine but I check out boots the other day just to see what they were like.

It's adequate, to say the most. I'd be happy to continue on as a customer there but Jessops still left a massive hole in the high street with what they offered. It was sad to see them go.

Just saw this article over at the Guardian. Six stores to open tomorrow + website: London, Manchester, High Wycombe, St Albans, Birmingham and Aberdeen.

It's good news, and I hope at least one of the North East branches reopens, (the newly refurbished Metro Centre branch would make most sense).

Sat watching it on the news right now. Stores opening today apparently. The central London store looks very smart.
I'm wondering if it's the 'Pro' stores that they used to have, that are reopening. I bought my D4 from the one in Birmingham. It was a great store with very helpful staff.

Have heard that there's going to be more emphasis on product/photographic knowledge for staff, and less pressure to sell extended warranties and magic neck straps or whatever. A lot of the old staff were bloody good, but from what I heard, the selling pressure they were under drove a lot of those away in disgust.

Good customer service could well offset a somewhat higher product price, especially if they can offer 'drop-in' advice for people who simply want questions answered. I'm happy to spend a few extra quid going to a physical shop because I know I'm getting a good product and will get good support if anything goes wrong.

Good luck to the New Jessops!

Just watched the article on the news myself and Mr. Jones was explaining that they are trying to keep prices on the lower side and even match online prices in-store. Really hope it works out.

Hope you're right on the CS aspect too, always been less than impressed when I used the Preston branches, although I am aware that many other branches did have decent, knowledgeable staff.

Jones has just been on Today. Talking about how limited camera phones are (one of the given reasons for the original failure of Jessops). Interestingly, he also mentioned 'high end' kit, so perhaps we'll see some of this as well as entry level and compact. Didn't hear him say anything about emphasising photographic knowledge when recruiting staff, though.

Preston shop was rubbish, thankfully the staff in Wilkinsons in Preston know what they're on about. I think I'll be sticking with the independent retailers from now on, there's good ones in chorley and Clitheroe as well.

I bought my first digital camera from a Jessops so I have a soft spot for them. I also think its just good news generally that the high street is fighting back albeit in a relatively small way.

My only beef is I can't stand Peter jones, so as long as his smug moon face doesn't appear anywhere, I might pay a visit sometime again :)

Good luck to them. I hope they reopen the Liverpool store in the future.
