Jessops warranty

Hi

I've just bought a second hand canon 60D and the auto focus has a problem. The camera is hardly used and bought in January so it's within 12 months and the guy gave me the receipt.

Will I be able to take it back to Jessops with the receipt or will they ask for ID etc and not let me return it as it's not my name on the receipt.

The seller seems a sound guy and he's said if there are any problems at any point let him know but it's a 90 treck to his house.

Basically, is Jessops 12 months guarantee transferable? It doesn't say it isn't on their terms on the back of the receipt.

Thanks

Colin

Warranty is for the original owner although you have the receipt and suppose you could represent yourself as such, perhaps say it was bought for you as a gift.

Seems harsh I must say, if a product is guaranteed for 12 months why does it matter who the owner is

That's my plan. To say it was bought as a gift.

Have you checked its not the lens? and not the camera? i know its a redundant thought, but my fiancées uncle's kit lens failed on him and Jessops said it was due to wear and tear. The lens was 4 months old :/

Yeah, I've tried three lenses and another body which all work on the other body.

It won't auto focus unless the focus is already quite close to where it should be. So if I'm focusing far away and then close up it won't do it, and vice versa.

i sold a 6 month old jessops flash gun on here which came with the receipt, and it developed a problem for the new owner. jessops exchanged it for a new one if i remember correctly.

ps - i am in northern ireland and the new owner is somewhere in england for what it's worth

Thanks, it makes me feel a bit better. I'm going to try this morning when they open. In my opinion they should do it because it's still the same camera within the warranty period, it shouldnt matter but that's not always the case :-(

Just out of interest what was the outcome?
I though that under an amendment to the Sale of Goods Act 1979 the burden of proof was on the retailer to prove the item had been mistreated/overused by the purchaser within 6 months of purchase.

I went in with it to another jessops, explained the situation and stood my ground and they replaced the whole kit(kit lens + camera) which was better then sending the lens off for a repair and leaving him without a lens to shoot through.

Well I took the camera in first thing this morning and they sent it away but the checkout guy was looking at the name and address on the receipt while I was signing my name... Didnt say anything so I hope I'm in the clear. We'll see though.

Well, just to give an update and the conclusion...

I got the camera back after 4 weeks of being 'repaired' and was told there was no fault and to check my lens.

I'd already checked it with 3 lenses in store and my 500D proving an obvious fault with the 60D.

The shop manager agreed and then sent it off again and added extra notes and said they would ring to explain the fault to the repair agent.

2 weeks later I got it back, and once again they said there was no fault with the camera but there was a fault with the 85mm lens... Which I don't even own or have ever used!!!

To their credit the store manager agreed that there was a fault but had to ring head office to sort it. Head office didn't want to exchange but the store overruled it and now I have a brand new 60D.

Bit of a b****r getting it all sorted but after about 6 weeks, alls well that ends well :-)
