Hello all,

Just thought I'd share my experience (about half an hour ago) with you.

After seeing someone on The Gadget Show bartering with the salesman at Jessops, I decided to give it a go myself for a few pieces I wanted.

Basically, the total instore should have been £350.80 and I got them down to £300.00! :)

This was for Nikon AF-S f1.8 35mm, carbon fibre tripod (that is taller than me and I'm 6ft), Nikon battery, and a UV filter. They also threw in 50 free prints!

I know I could have got the same online for around the same price but I sometime we all like "the thrill of the chase"! lol

Which branch was that at?

Every jessops I have been to, any mention of the word discount has resulted in me getting glares as though I had commited an act of blasphemy.

Nice discount though

They also throw in that 50 free prints voucher on every sale, Ive got about 10 of those voucher now

Well, it certainly makes a change from people posting Jessops in the thread title, followed by another complaint about their bad experience! I suppose it's always worth trying to haggle for a better price, and you came out of it well. Some previous posts suggest that you're more likely to get discount on accessories than bodies - because of the mark up margins - but I don't know. They're not going to take a loss either way.

Well done! Its always worth asking a shop if can do a deal on larger purchases - sometimes they can, sometimes not. Less likely if buying one item, if buying several then more chance or little extras included. Its fun, you feel good about it, they get the sale - plus they get you walking away feeling good about the sale and you're more likely to go back again.

I have always found Jessops good to barter with! I've bought all of my camera bodies and most of my lens from them and always paid around the best 'online' price I could find.

Why did you waste your money on a UV filter?

Might be clumsy like me ,and a scratched UV is a hell of a lot better than a scratched lens.....

When I got the D300 and 17-55 2.8 they did the cheapest price for me I could find, even online it was only a few quid cheaper.
OK,there are some @rsouls in different branches, but you get that anywhere.

Lol as you said, I'd rather risk a scratched filter than a scratched lens!

Last year I was hired as the Canon expert sales assistant in the Kingston branch & they do definitely work out a fair price if they can. They're pretty money grabbing but if they think you're likely to come back they do discounts, offer online exclusives in-store & throw together bundle deals. Depending on what you want from them, they vary from reasonable to catastrophic!

It was at the Kensington High Street (London) branch as I work round the corner from it.

I managed to barter jessops down from £599 to £539 for Nikon 18-200 Vr2 lens last week, about 10% off :-) :-)

Do you think i can manage that on a D7000? lol.
Saying that cuyrrys have a great price on them right now.. well it looks good to me any way lol

They've offered me a free UV filter on an occasion or two. Think they gave me a couple pretty decent CF cards when I bought my D3 and they have always been quite open to me placing a reserve and collect order to get something at webprice rather than store price though I did forget about that when I bought my X100, coulda saved myself £50!
