This was drawn to my attention on another forum, might suit someone, but the salary is very poor IMHO

With the creative freedom to research and direct every project, you’ll create a catalogue of iconic images that encapsulate our entire infrastructure. There will be extensive travel across the UK, and you’ll work closely with internal and external partners. Your work could encapsulate everything from state-of-the-art engineering projects to elegant profile shots of our people – your remit is vast.

It’s an incredible opportunity to add substantial work to your portfolio. And it’s open to all – whether you’re a student, a graduate or a trained photographer. You will however need experience in exterior or industrial photography, the confidence and drive to manage your own projects, and your own equipment. Our future awaits.

To apply please submit your CV online and attach 3 of your photos which you feel best portray your style and fit the job on offer

The salary for this position is £16,000 per annum

Interesting, if I hadn't just got a job I might have applied for this, as I personally think that salary would be ok for a beginner into prof. photography.

The salary might seem poor but with the number of youngsters on photography courses at Uni and the like they can afford to start out at the bottom end of the scale as their bound to get a catch.

The sounds pretty interesting, and I'm sure it could be a job someone will enjoy getting out of bed in the morning for, but for £16k?

£16k plus whatever else you choose to do along side it. It sounds like a fairly flexible role where you would plan your own time. The only question I would have is whether there is a contract that states you can't earn money form any other photography work in which case it's a Dodo.

Indidentally where was this advertised because I've not come across it and I am always looking for photography jbs out of interest.

I think the salary is a joke. They'll get what they pay for.

12 month job security...sound good to me at the moment! 1st year out of uni and freelancing...it's hard going :( Just think of the portfolio of work and travel ops! You could photograph near enough the whole of the UK in the year...from the remote Scottish highlands to central London, with no pestering BTP to worry about either! :p

Cracking opportunity for someone like me....perhaps not so for an established pro!

First year out of uni and you think you have the experience to handle this? Look forward to your pics! ;)

I've been photographing for a living for 3 years ;)

That's a pretty immature stance to take to be honest...

Good luck then - let's see what you get.

bit sneaky editing after I've replied!
I've been photographing for a living for more than 30 years - doesn't make me better - but more experienced and I wouldn't look at this unless they doubled the figures. Even then - you have to use your own equipment.

The edit was in progress as you were typing :p

From my point of view...I wouldn't expect to be considered for a job which had double the salary - when there are chaps out there such as yourself with the decades of experience (in no derogatory sense!).

So as I said in my original point, for someone young and new to the game...perfect opportunity :) We all have to start somewhere remember...

I hope you get it - and I'll let you off with the edit!! :)
I'm too far away to be interested anyway.

Got to say that it sounds like an ideal job for someone like yourself. Lots of travel, see the country, and get to take loads of interesting pictures with permission. One would hope that their would be an expenses facility for overnight stays when out in the boonies.

A hugely varied and imaginative assignment.

£16k works out at just over £8/hr if working 52 weeks of 37.5 hours.

For some people £8/hr would be a decent wage increase - this would allow them to earn more moeny whilst breaking into making a living from their photography

Doesn't say anything about being part time does it - I think it would be quite a heavy committement - and you have to use your own equipment - and I'd think a D300 or D3 plus pro glass would be a requirement for the quality of images they'd be expecting. So £8 ph is pxss.

£8/hr is a 39-40% pay increase for me.

After I finish Uni I don't know what I want to do. This would give me 12 months pay, would increase my portfolio, could sell stock whilst constantly increasing my library, could travel all over the UK getting more locations and styles rather than being based within a couple of hours drive from whatever other job I could have,

We need to see the full T&C - once you start working for a corporate like this your life is not your own - they'll own you - for £16K!

I hope someone from TP gets this then we can find out what it's really like - and see some of the pics - maybe - you won't own the copyright - it's full time employment - so NR may well own copyright in all your images and limit what other stuff you can do for a year. Open your eyes folks - this is not the gift it seems - or I'd be very surprised.

The thing is money is not everything. If you enjoy the job that you do money is not as relivant. Good luck to anyone who goes for it.

That's good money, if you compare it to what most press photographers get.

Blummin flip.

Is there an exepenses account?

*rubs hands*

Network Rail pay "reasonable" subsistence expenses, but require receipts for every penny spent.

I knew a Scotrail photographer and his Nikon kit was supplied by his employer.

This one does say about using your own equipment though!

If the pay expenses, which I'd be very upset about if they didn't...then even better :)

I think it is potentially a good oportunity for the right person but it is certainly worth checking the contract terms before accepting it. £16k is fine if expenses are paid and the position gives oportunity to make additional money along the way with work you do off your own back while you along on the ride.

AWP stop being such a negative old grump. £16k might be peanuts to a pro like you who can clearly command double the rate but everyone needs to start somewhere.

And like someone else said - if it's a job you enjoy and it pays the bills then it's worth it. If you're only in it to make buckets of money then good luck to you - but somethings are more important.

Agree with this entirely Andy... such snobbery in some peoples posts eh.

AWP, you don't have a good attitude I'm afraid. Horses for courses... give people a chance eh.
