jolt when focusing

Just had delivered a brand new canon 24-105 L for my 40D, however i have noticed that sometimes when focusing, the view through the view-finder jolts slighty & I hear a very faint click sound; it also makes the same sound when I release my finger from focusing.

None of my other lenses do this (50mm 1.8 & 18-55is) Was just wondering if this is normal or do I send it back & ask for a replacement?

Update .. I have notices that I only get this slight movement upon focusing when the IS is switched on?
 
It'll be the IS, thats what it does and how it works.
 
My kit lens focuses without this issue with IS on! Think I might have to take a trip to the local camera store tomorrow & compare their 24-105 against my one. Was just interested to see if anyone else has this issue?
 
Its normal, different lenses react differently. The 24-105 has a hell of a lot more glass to move than the 18-55. Its fine, use it, live with it, stop worrying over nothing.

Just wanted some reassurance that its normal as it was a Huge purchase for me.
 
Actually, as you're looking through the viewfinder and you feel that little jolt - you'll see the image become rock steady in the viewfinder. It's hugely effective so it's money well spent. ;)
 
Dont want to pour water on your fire but i had this with a Nikon 70-200mm and the VR motor was knackered, i sent it back.

I got a 24-105mm yesterday and had the same sort of thing but when I put my 55-250 kit lens on it made the same noise albeit a lot quieter just hadn't been listening for it before. Perhaps just the size of the 24 makes it louder!
 
Well I went into that well known high-street camera store with my 40D to see if the 24-105 model in the shop does the same as my recent purchase..... And it does; if I hadn't of tried it would have been forever on my mind.
Really pleased with my first L lens, its a joy to use, although on my little laptop its hard to make out noticeable improvement in iq over my 18-55IS kit lens (which is very Sharp) but I'm sure it'll show in prints/ bigger screen
 
I'm very surprised you can't see the difference compared to the kit lens!
