I'm about to press the trigger on a trip to Costa Rica for a couple of weeks and am now thinking about jiggling my equipment around to suit that type of holiday.
At the moment I have a 400D, Tokina 12-24 F/4, Canon 35 f/2 and a non IS 70-200 f/4. I bought them to be light and small but good all rounders and they generally are. This trip will probably be less walking than the one I swapped my lenses for so maybe bigger isn't too bad.
So any suggestions on what lenses may suit what I want. I'm expecting it to be wet, maybe a bit dingy in the jungle itself and hopefully want to get some decent wildlife and landscape photos.
While I like the three lenses I have the 12-24 is currently broken (think the -30+ on my last trip killed it
) so that needs repairing and the prime as a walk around can be a bit of a pain. I've tried the 17-55 Tamron and just hated it however (and it broke within a week... honest, I'm not bad with kit...!) but the f/2 and sharpness is superb (in the prime).
For wildlife I'm thinking the 70-200 may be a little short, I used to have a 300 f/4 and that always seemed to short as well! Maybe a 1.4x Tele and upgrade to the 70-200 f/4 IS (with the benefit of weather sealing, even if the camera doesn't have it...)? Perhaps a Macro lens would be a better bet, but then would I need to learn how to use a flash?
Budget wise I'd love to be able to sell the lenses I have to cover what I want but I'm sure I'll have to add a bit in. Weight and size are very important to me though. I'm also not adverse to swapping over to Nikon if they have a better set of lenses to suit my needs, especially if there is a camera that would suit me better than the current Canon crop (small, light, good noise, preferably sealed and Mg body)?
So a few different questions and options there, I'd love some feedback if possible, especially if you've been to Central America.
