Just about there now!

With the purchase of my 1D Mk3 and the unlikelihood of affording a nice 1DsMk3 anytime soon I have decided that I have just about reached the limit of my equipment wants. I suppose I will look back on this in a while and laugh at my naivety to think I won't want more.

So here is what I currently have:

1D MkIII

24L TSE MkII
24-70L
65 MPE
90 TSE
100L Macro
200L f2.8
300L f4
1.4x EF Extender MkII
2,0x EF Extender MkI (on its way)
EF12 Ext tube (on way)
EF25 Ext tube
EX580 MkII
MT-24

So, the only thing I may consider would be swapping the 100L Macro for a 135L as I think the 100L is perhaps a bit close to the 90TSE and that can be used for portraits and macro (with one of the tubes).

Not got quite enough stuff yet to justify a user name change to Canon Ed. ;)

I am planning on doing a lot less dealing and a lot more taking from now on!

Now is that you telling us so you can convince yourself????

to me it's a case of 'want or need'

what do you shoot? are you pro, semi, or just a rich amateur (not meant offensively)??

do you want to start shooting new things, or are you set in your ways and doubt you'll be shooting new subjects in the near future!

if that was my list i'd want to add, wireless release, wireless flash triggers, (IF i shot alot of macro (which i recon you do)) a macro flash thingy, and a back up body

the only thing i think your missing is the back up body!

I read the thread title and all I can say is I must have a filthy mind :naughty:

Didnt notice that, what happened to the 7D Ed?

Used to be a full time pro, now just a photographer, trying different things for my own pleasure, and if others like what I produce along the way all the better!

Don't need a back up body, just sold both my 5DMkII and 7D, I would like to get a 1DsMkIII though as I would like a full frame Pro Body with liveview, liveview and TSE lenses just ROCK!

Didnt notice that, what happened to the 7D Ed?

I sold it after buying the 1D MkIII, I just preferred the feel of the 1DMk3 and like the wider angle of view offered by the 1.25x crop. I really want a 1Ds MkIII but it ain't gonna happen anytime soon!

No fast standard prime?

Don't really need it for what I shoot, although as I said I am thinking of exchanging the 100L for a 135L f2. Not sure yet, will have to have more of a play with the 90 TSE first.

First you'll realise that you're weak at the wide end. Then you'll need a 500 4.

Then full frame will beckon.

Then you'll realise that primes are just a pain.

Then when you're all zoomed up again, the new crop format 9D will look soo tempting.

Then you'll remember what a great outfit you had in Dec 09 ;)

..........@Hoppy`s post.

haha, i told myself when i got the 2nd MKII and 16-35 i'd be happy and wouldnt need anyomore kit. Now i want to upgrade sell one of the MKIII's and get two MKIV's get a 300 f/2.8, and a pair of PW's.........i think im jsut a gear whore

I think you always find something else you need/want

Thats so very true, but I have discovered that full frame is not for me, and I totally agree that primes are a pain - shame they give such great images! Its the 1D MkIV thats worrying me, it keeps telling me that I would love to have it

EdBray, enjoy the setup while you can, you know as well as the rest of us that you will be changing or adding to it very soon :D :D

Not really as the 24L TSE gives the same AOV as a 13mm Lens on the 1dMk3 when shifted 12mm each side and stitched. I proved this by testing against a modified 10-22 EFs.

Then full frame will beckon.

Only in a Pro body with Live view which currently means the 1DsMk3, and is out of the question financially.

Then you'll realise that primes are just a pain. I have a zoom for walking around!

Hmmmm!

Eddie, that's brilliantly irrational logic ;)

Its true, you really ARE telling us to convince yourself Ed

Yves Geza wishes he had a fiver for every time I said 'no, thats it, I have all I want' .... in fact if he had, he would be someway to buying me that D700 I said never wanted

I think the logic for getting more stuff is fine, I have no trouble at all with basic gadget lust :D

It's when you start swapping like-for-like it gets distressingly confusing. I'm on my fifth mid-tele-zoom-and-macro solution. Which works fine, for now. But since I don't seem to use it much anyway...

TBH 17-55 does 90% of everything I want, 5% 10-22 and 5% 100-400. Which fails to explain why I still have a couple more lenses on my wants list :bonk:

By soon I actually meant longer than a month, but then someone smiled on me and the opportunity that couldn't be missed came along.

Let's see how long this lasts now?

Jesus Ed, I said before, all these swapping is costing you bomb ! You had the 7D what? 2 weeks before you sold it? lol I also said before why not just buy the 1DsIII and be done with it, why go through all the in between? Like getting a secondhand 24 Tilt/Shift only to sell it the same week, and then ordering the MKII. And I thought you had a 135L, I am sure I saw a thread on it, why did you sell it? And if you are going to get it again, are you sure this time you will keep it?

Call me a cynic but i think you don't know what you want to shoot and too much spare cash to just testing out gear. Sure, it's your money and you can do what you want but it just seem a waste to me.

You have Tilt/Shift, Macro, telephoto, and some portraits lens too. What do you like shooting? Rather than look at your gear and think what you want next, look at what you want to shoot and buy the best tool for that.

gadget lust :D I know what you mean, no sooner do I have something I like, I'm considering selling it to fund the next venture... but hey, why not, if you can afford it why shouldn't you!? eventually your bound to wind up with something you like :p

I sold my 70-200mm f/2.8 IS to get my 85mm 1.2... was it very practical.. not really (well it kinda was )... but do I love it, oooooo yes :D And yes, I could still use a 70-200, and I do miss it...but will I make do, absolutely because it feels sooooo good :)

Its all part of the fun, the learning experience, and what feels good to you.

Do you only have ONE 580EX? Then it may be time to get another 2-3 580EX or at least 430EX (or a full studio set up). Some things and people just need to be lit up properly sometimes.

Other than that I would not dare to get rid of 100mm macro, if you do any close-ups or 1:1s. 90mm may be able to do this, but it is not optimised for macro, and you will soon find out why AF is so useful in most outdoor situations.

If there is plenty of cash, then 70-200mm f/2.8L IS is a good one to have. The versatility is great, it looks lovely, and helps to keep fit (300mm f/2.8L may be even better in that respect).

Oh and there is plenty of scope for a short prime, if even for the weight and size.

Ok, you got me ! I admit at first, I thought you were serious !
LOL

I also have a Metz 45CT5 and a couple of smaller guns as well as a 4 head 200w/s studio flash outfit, so plenty of lighting if required.

I also have the MPE 65 though which covers from 1:1 - 5:1 ratios

That is a lens I do fancy!
